I just bought 20th Century Ghosts

Postby Kiuku on Mon Oct 06, 2008 11:49 pm

So I picked up 20th Century Ghost collection at the bookstore today for the first time. I was going to say I purchased it with my recent insomnia in mind for whereever I stopped tonight..but then I realized it probably wouldn't be very nice to imply that I bought Joe Hill's collection to put me to sleep.

Anyway I'm logging off now to check it out. It's on my dresser.

I read some more of Joe Hill's collection at the Thai restaurant earlier. I will hold my reactions for now, except to say that it doesn't disappoint.

I read Joe's book at an expensive sushi restaurant while chatting with Noam Chomsky.

Florida,

I find that expensive sushi restaurants are only as good as their Sake. I had some truly exceptional sake at:

Meanwhile the best sushi I ever had was at a little hole in the wall, cheap restaurant in Savannah, Georgia.

I have read about half of the book and really like the stories. I just wish they could be longer, I find myself really getting sucked in and the end comes too soon. I hope the last half is as good as the first half!

My husband bought this book for me, knowing I love ghosts stories. I was not impressed by Joe Hill's work. Thank goodness my husband only paid 6 bucks for this book. There were a couple of stories that I did like. For the most part I didn't care for it.

My husband and I would read a story and then talk about it. My husband read up to The Cape and stopped reading the book. He said he didn't think book should have been titled 20th century ghosts. I continued to read the book to the end. Again I only liked a few of the stories and some to me didn't seem like ghost stories.

In my opinion this book should have been titled something else.

I can't remember another books of short stories I liked as well as 20thCG. I think it was well titled. I agree that not all of the stories are scary ghost stories, but there are all kinds of "ghosts" you know...some literal and some metaphorical. We are all haunted by something.
