La Perdida

Postby Betsy_Boo on Thu Jan 07, 2010 4:34 pm

I was visiting close-by daughter and she talked me into browsing her local comic shop in Greensboro (very impressive place...twice the size of mine) and I wanted to look at Asterios Polyps (sp?) because I had heard good things about it. Unfortunately it is so popular that they can't keep it in stock. The guy suggested I try La Perdida by Jessica Abel and so I bought it. Just curious if anyone out there has read this one and what they thought of it?

I started reading this last night and I'm really liking it. Visually speaking it reminds me of MAUS, in that it is in b&w. And of course the subject matter is pretty serious. But I think the thing that is getting to me about this story is that the main character is so much like me. It's disturbing when you see and recoginize a negative aspect of yourself in someone else. In this case, the main character is too trusting and talks too much. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten in trouble for just saying everything that's in my head.
