Lol, Dana- that's how it looks in the pics but I guarantee it is just your run-of-the-mill light grey cement driveway.
By the time I'd finished it, the sun had about set and so the area was given the darker look. I took a pic just now of the spot I chalked on in full sun-

I found black at Wal-Mart. I had to buy three sets of 10 colors to get 3 blacks out of them...and I did run out. Those were much softer than the regular "sidewalk chalk". And, yes....messy!!!!!
Anyway, I found them in the arts & crafts section for under $5.00 a set. It said it was chalk...so I did not question the integrity of my entry....But now, got me thinking, those were the pastels for canvas.

Wow, it is a lighter color than the final project LK. I would have sworn that was that darker asphalt stuff. Well, good, that makes me feel better about my entry. Fingers crossed. Maybe this year I can scream the victory cry:

EAT MY CHALK DUST MUTHAS!!!!! :D

Definitely, Dana! See how dark the shaded ground looks? That's all it was. Plus, I think Kung Fu and Rampage shaded over their ground w/ a light color first.
I thought yours kicked @$$ last year, btw.

PS- if Joe says I can, then I still intend to use charcoal. I used to use it long ago when I fancied myself an artist, HA!, and I remember it being very dark, chalky and versatile. Excellent for shading- and I need that.

Grasshopper ~ It's not the medium or the instrument used
in applying your image...but the vision itself.

Now, snatch this piece of chalk out of my hand.
