Grave Tales #6

Postby Stephanie on Wed Mar 04, 2009 4:53 pm

I just got an email from Cemetery Dance announcing that Grave Tales #6 has shipped. Issue #6 has a Joe Hill story in it, FREDDY WERTHAM GOES TO HELL, so I am super excited about it.

Any other Cemetery Dance subscribers out there?

Too true! The mag is my favorite - I love to imagine a world where an issue comes out every month ;-)

To be fair, I suspect that running a mag like that and a small press is a difficult business.

Hi - I noticed a couple folks having trouble finding this on the blog. I posted the link there, and thought I would throw it up here too in case anyone comes looking:

Thanks for posting this Stephanie. I called my CBS today and they said they can't get Cemetary Dance issues so I'm assuming that you have to order direct, right? I will do that asap. But I do have a question: Can you tell me a little bit about this company? They have a magazine and a small press, right? Any info would be helpful.

Correct, Betsy - they started off with just the mag and have expanded into a small press as well. I can't tell you much about them as a press (I have not yet purchased one of the books they publish) but I love the magazine. It is a straight up horror fiction mag, they have reviews, interviews, etc. too but I subscribe for the fiction - I am short fiction junkie. Slow in coming out, but always a treat when it finally does.

Grave Tales #6 is only the second issue I have of the comic. There are more, 4 to be exact ;-) but they are sold out.

Thanks Stephanie! I ordered my copy of "Grave Tales #6" today and I took a minute to check out the magazine. It looks really good and I may order a subscription when I have a little more dough. I really miss my subscription to PostScripts...loved getting that magazine of terrific short stories. It's just a little out of my price range these days. But CD is a bit more affordable so I might just try them out.

My problem with CD is that they take TOOO LONNGGG to get anything out to people.

Does that include the magazine? Does it not come out on time?

I think it is more their upcoming books...I remember ordering the first secretary of dreams, and it took a looooong time for it to get made...at least a year, if not two...

Ok...so I got GT#6 and I have to say that I experienced personally the major importance of color in a comic. This was my first comic without color and it was a bit distracting. Weird, huh? I liked the story and the drawings, but it really did need the color. It made sense for MAUS not to have it because it made artistic sense for the subject matter. I don't understand why Cemetary Dance wouldn't have a color comic.
I found the story line very interesting. I never knew there had been a black-listing of comic book creators. Of course I knew about the black-listing of writers (tv, movies...etc.) in the 50's but had never heard that comic book writers suffered a similar fate. Definitely gonna read up on it.
