"The Devil on the Staircase" new Joe Hill short story

Postby Paul_Campbell on Sun Feb 01, 2009 12:08 pm

About a year ago Joe mentioned that a tale called "The Devil on the Staircase" would be included in an anthology called Stories edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio.

Shane, you got any word on this?

Amazon.com still lists it as a February 7, 2009 release - though I note that its Amazon.co.uk listing has now vanished.

And there's nothing on Neil Gaiman's blog :(

Plus, there's no information available beyond the bare facts of its editors, publisher and 'release' date: nowhere on the web can you find the cover artwork or a table of contents.

(Incidentally, delighted by the news that Gaiman won the prestigous children's book award - The John Newbery Medal - for The Graveyard Book, which is a wonderful read, even better if you get the audio CDs of Gaiman himself reading it!)

Paul,

I've not heard anything recently about this coming out any time soon. It might be the kind of thing that's delayed for any number of reasons, but like you said -- as of right now, there's no new info from Gaiman's sites, Sarrantonio's, Amazon's, or the publisher's. So, it might be in a holding pattern of sorts. After Coraline premieres this week, perhaps Gaiman might remark upon it if it's still a live project. But, who knows...

If I see anything, I'll pass it along, though.

-Shane

Paul,

I'd look for a winter release on that - my understanding is they're waiting on stories from several contributors.

Thanks for the heads-up, Joe. Actually, I'm quite happy for it to come out further down the line: if it had appeared when originally scheduled it means "Throttle" and "The Devil on the Staircase" would have been released during the same month -

- much better to 'spread the love' as they say!
