Concerts......

What are you listening to now, and why isn't it Marah?

Postby demorganakamark on Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:15 am

my most memorable concert has to be when JOHNNY CASH came back to fordyce AR(hometown), and performed a concert there. He is from Kingsland,AR and fordyce is just a stone throw away...this was in the 80's.

More recently, the uncoming VAN HALEN CONCERT in st.louis on april 26.

and in the deserved to be mentioned category: my first concert with my soon to be wife......it was a TOOL CONCERT..i have seen them 3 times in 3 different states....great band.

First concert, almost ashamed to admit: Limp bisket, paparoach, slimshady. The only reason i went was because the ticket was for free and my buddy had some great weed on him. Hahahaha.
Perfect circle-great show
The dillinger escape plan-best fucking live band. Complete insanity
Sevendust- saw them twice. First time i got to smoke a joint with the band. Great bunch of guys. They were all very approachable. Except for the lead singer. He was too busy with the 17 year old groupies.
Guns n roses- the new lineup. Great show. Hearing axl scream 'NEW YORK CITY! YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE? YOUR IN THE JUNGLE BABY, YOUR GONNA DIE!' That made my life. After hearing that i became content with life.
Mars volta- last show i saw. Great band!
And thats all i think. I want to see tool one day.

Wow, you all have your shit together. I can't even begin to start listing...a lot were just local bands or "Blanity Blank-Blank's coming, you wanna go?"

My first concert was L7 and a few weeks later Lollapalooza w/ RHCP

I have seen Tori Amos more than any one band or person. I am a huge fan and she seems to come to SFlorida/Palm Beach almost yearly. She or her parents...don't remember which...live in Palm Beach so she starts or ends a US tour here. I did not see her when she was opening for Alanis. I felt as though she did NOT need to be an opener...and that would have been at an arena...the venues where I have seen her have been pretty intimate and I like that more. (which is why she probably was opening for Alanis Morrisette...I'm not sure she's Arena status on her own)

I saw Pearl Jam at the Virgin Festival.
It was even better than Ozzy & Priest.
Eddie Vedder is a god.
I wrote a screenplay about him once.
I <3 him so damn much.

"Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, take no more, she practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over...
Pretends to sleep as he looks her over

She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Ohh...

Talkin' to herself, there's no one else who needs to know...
She tells herself, oh...
Memories back when she was bold and strong
And waiting for the world to come along...
Swears she knew it, now she swears he's gone

She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
She lies and says she still loves him, can't find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man...
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Yeah...

She loved him, yeah... she don't want to leave this way
She feeds him, yeah... that's why she'll be back again

Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better... man..."

Back in April, Green Day held five "guerilla" concerts - each announced no more than a day in advance, all at locations in and around Oakland, and each concert a surprise, and all held at small venues relative to the stadiums they usually fill. On April 14th, I was lucky enough to land tickets to their show at The Fox Theater in Oakland. Green Day came onstage and played their entire new album - which was, at that point, as yet unreleased. It was an amazing way to experience hearing their new album played straight through for the first time. After playing the album, they took a short break and came back and played a bunch of their older stuff. It was a fantastic night.

I saw Green Day again in August when they played in San Jose. The San Jose show which was the only stop in the Bay Area and therefore it was their "hometown" show (they're from Oakland). Billy Joe's whole family was there. He brought up and introduced his brother, and then later brought his mom on stage. He gave her the Supersoaker, showed her how to use it, and had her soaking the audience. It was a total blast.

HP Pavilion is a much larger venue, but I was much closer to the stage this time than I had been at the 'guerilla concert' that I attended in April. I was down front on the floor by the catwalk. The show completely rocked. Green Day played for almost three hours.

My cellphone is a piece of crap, but here's a photo I took from the floor.

Last night I attended the 23rd Annual Bridge School Benefit. It is an acoustic concert organized by Neil Young every year at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA.

The performers were:

Neil Young
No Doubt
Jimmy Buffett
Chris Martin (of Coldplay)
Sheryl Crow
Fleet Foxes
Monsters of Folk
Wolfmother
Gavin Rossdale

My daughter saw SD last week but missed a lot of the concert because she's so short. Still, she had a good time!

I jone-sing to see Springsteen again...wah! :(
