Concerts......

What are you listening to now, and why isn't it Marah?

Concerts......

Postby mommyd on Fri Apr 20, 2007 1:44 pm

What concerts have you been to? Which one was the best?

I haven't had the pleasure of going to many concerts but I have been lucky enough to see my 2 favorite performers:
Def Leppard twice and Prince once.
I've also seen:
Garth Brooks
Vince Gill
Rick Springfield
Great White

Gosh, that's almost embarrassing.

My husband has been to more concerts that he can count. Has probably forgotten more than I have even been too! He's lucky!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the concert I took my daughter to for her 15th birthday....

Simple Plan/Good Charlotte/Reliant K

Now that was an experience. I was probably the oldest person there.

The original Doobie Brothers.
The original Journey.

John Anderson
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
UFO
The original Styx
Beach Boys before everyone started dropping dead and going insane
Wynona Judd
Billy Preston
Willie Nelson
Alice Cooper
ZZTop
Lynyrd Skynyrd

I know there's more but I can't think.

I saw Trooper in a bar once, does that count?

U2 on their Joshua Tree tour in Vancouver in 1987 or 1988 I think.
I saw Sting in convert at the Saddledome in Calgary and that was about 20 years ago and that is the sum total of my concert experience. I was going to go see Duran Duran a couple of years ago, but my dog was pregnant and her puppies were due around that time, and there was no way I was going to miss that even if Duran Duran was my all time fave when I was a teen. mmmm John Taylor. :)

edited because the Saddledome is in Calgary and not Vancouver.

Where's Jane. JAAAAANEEE! Jane has the funniest all time concert story I have ever heard. Well, at least I thought it was hysterical.

Jane, you've got to tell that story....

Okay don't laugh! Okay, maybe you can:

My very first concert was Billy Ray Cyrus at like 10yrs
Meatloaf (thanks to my mom and grandma)
All 4 1 (boys to men spin off) twice.
Jars of Clay (What ever happened to them?)
Rod Stewart (mom and gma again) not bad though
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood (after 6 hrs in line for tickets they opened 3 shows)
and last Rob Zombie...

Wow now that I look at it, its quite the aray of music genres!
Sometimes I get the urge to run around naked, but then I drink some Windex and it keeps me from streaking.

Hey, me too! I saw McCartney in Berkeley in 1990.

The earliest concert that I attended was Day on the Green #3 at the Oakland Coliseum in September 1983. The bands were:
The Police
The Fixx
Madness
Oingo Boingo and
The Thompson Twins. I had no interest in the Thompson Twins.

Some other bands I've seen (in no particular order):

Stevie Ray Vaughn twice in the mid-'80's. The first time in our local little civic auditorium. One of his roadies opened for him, playing flamenco guitar.
The Cult a couple times.
The first time was in that same little civic auditorium. Some new band opened for them, but most of us hadn't heard of them (yet). It was Guns 'N' Roses.
Lenny Kravitz - opened for The Cult the second time I saw them.
Huey Lewis and the News way back when.
The Tubes even earlier - when they were still big.
Billy Idol - a couple times.
CSN&Y
Barenaked Ladies
Alanis (twice)
Tori Amos
Good Charlotte
Dave Matthews
Cracker a few times - I love these guys.
Camper Van Beethoven a few times - them too.
Elvis Costello twice
Van Halen (with Sammy)
Celine Dion
Eric Clapton
Norah Jones
David Bowie
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians
ZZ Top
Steve Miller Band
Skid Row
The Smithereens in San Francisco back when they were promoting the "11" album.
Jerry Lee Lewis (that one was just a couple years ago)
Nick Lowe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Lowe
Yes
Bright Eyes
Dire Straits (Brothers In Arms album tour)
Pink Floyd (Momentary Lapse of Reason album tour)
Scorpions (Love at First Sting album tour)
Bon Jovi (opened for the Scorpions)
The B-52s (2x)
Joe Walsh
Peter Frampton

That's all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment.

Edited to include a subsequent post in this thread, plus a few more I remembered later.
