Zombie Novels

Postby aaron2010 on Tue Feb 20, 2007 11:11 pm

There's always a thread like this at some point, so here it is.

My top 5 zombie novels.

World War Z : Max Brooks
Reign of the Dead : Len Barnhart
Xombies : Walter Greatshell
The Rising : Brian Keene
The Dead Shall Inherit The Earth : Vince Churchill

Subject to change at any time, of course. :P

It's always good to see another person who has an unhealthy obsession with zombies. I will confess that I've never read a zombie book. Didn't even know there WERE any. The longer I haunt this board, the more books I have to add to my already ridiculously long list of stuff to pick up.

At this rate, lil Ash will never have a college fund.

Thanks, aaron! I'm actually at the part of the month where I'm like, "Should I buy another book...or groceries?" This selfish child of mine, always wanting chicken nuggets and grapes. *Sigh* So the groceries won.

So I was pretty psyched to see a bunch of e-books for free on your link. Though they're not quite up to Joe's standard, I will read ANYTHING. Good, bad, or ugly - it's all fair game.

So, yeah. Thanks again.

That is all.

A great great read is Monster Island by Wellington. It's in print now but originated as an E-Book.

Thanks again. Just downloaded it. Now, if only I could get the child to agree to a nap...

No problem.

For all the other zombie fans out there, Brian Keene has another zombie novel called THE DEAD SEA coming out soon. Another one for the pile.

Try Bentley Little's The Walking for a creepy take on zombies.

The Walking was the first book I read by Little. It's not my favorite by him, but it's a zombie novel so I dig it.

Dead in the West by Joe R. Lansdale is a great zombie western.

Cell by Stephen King is by all rights a zombie story from start to finish. Albeit done differently with the pulse of a cell phone the results were very zombiefied and good. I thought Cell was by no means King's best work but a pageturner still.

I'm one of the purist, I guess. I wouldn't call CELL a zombie book. Or the movie 28 Days Later. I know I know, I'm a stickler.

Do I need to read any other books before World War Z or need any background ? It's not part of a series is it ? I wanted to read that book but didn't for some specific reason that I cannot remember, I do however remember the buzz around it.

No previous reading needed. WWZ is such an incredible read. It's very smart and well written.

I wouldn't classify Cell as a zombie novel either, or 28 Days Later as a zombie movie.

Not that I'm a zombie snob or anything :D

I did read two books by Brian Keene, ummmm The Rising and City Of The Dead (that might not be the exact title, can't remember). They were passed along to me by a friend and then I passed them along to another friend, LauraKaye (who is a member here). I was not too impressed. The guy that gave them to me actually had Keene's home address because he sold him some things on ebay and he suggested we go drive by Keene's house and chuck the books through the window, but I was a little more forgiving :P
Are you stalking me? Cuz that would be SUPER!

I've never read a zombie story I think I might need too though. I think a couple of them live next door, Well maybe not LIVE I'll say reside there
